Our Year at The Deer Lease 2012-13 Part 1
Hey Guys
Sorry for the Lack of Post - as you will see we have been busy...
My son Zale and I joined our 1st hunting lease in Sept 2011 on a impulse - we were looking for something to do when the offshore fishing turns too rough...
That first few months we hunted out of ground blinds near un-established feeders and never even saw a deer.
We made big plans for 2012 - We would build a platform stand were there were a ton of hogs on camera and create a dedicated Hog hunting spot.
We would also set up dedicated deer hunting spot deep in the woods near a creek with a triple intersecting game trails.
We build the hog hunting platform and put a ground blind on it....

Set a feeder with solar power garden lights attached

Put two man tripod stand and a feeder in the deep woods for deer hunting

View from tripod stand to feeder and view from feeder to stand...

We put feed plots in - which was hard work for two city guys

Food plots turned out very well

Zale was ready for action!

After all the work was done we started hunting...

Then Zale got a buck

Hauling his buck out

Nice deer for a 11 year old...

Standing next to that deer he was so excited and proud - he gave me a big hung and said "Thanks Dad" - Well it doesn't get any better than that.....

Fishing with Brian and Jace
Hey Guys
I headed out fishing Sunday 7/3/11 with my brother Brian and nephew Jace.
Our fishing trip got off to a very good start as we caught a lot of live bait quickly in the early morning about 15 miles offshore of surfside, Tx.
Then things slowed down we stopped and fished a few wrecks and rocky areas - but came up empty except for Jace's Kingfish.....
We headed west - over to the sunken Liberty Ships (USS Fogg) and Brian caught some throwback Red Snapper and several nice kingfish.
We headed a little more offshore and tried fishing near a old sunken oil rig - again nothing - we were about 40 miles offshore at this point - it was getting late - so decided to work our way back home to surfside.
On our way back Brian spotted a nice weedline with a lot of small dolphin fish (Mahi-Mahi) and we started catching them one after another.
All the noise in the water lured a ~35# Cobia (Ling) up to the boat and it gave Jace hard fight .... I gaff him into the fish box and his next swim will be in tarter sauce....
