Fishing with Brian and Jace

Hey Guys

I headed out fishing Sunday 7/3/11 with my brother Brian and nephew Jace.

Our fishing trip got off to a very good start as we caught a lot of live bait quickly in the early morning about 15 miles offshore of surfside, Tx.

Then things slowed down we stopped and fished a few wrecks and rocky areas - but came up empty except for Jace's Kingfish.....

We headed west - over to the sunken Liberty Ships (USS Fogg) and Brian caught some throwback Red Snapper and several nice kingfish.

We headed a little more offshore and tried fishing near a old sunken oil rig - again nothing - we were about 40 miles offshore at this point - it was getting late - so decided to work our way back home to surfside.

On our way back Brian spotted a nice weedline with a lot of small dolphin fish (Mahi-Mahi) and we started catching them one after another.

All the noise in the water lured a ~35# Cobia (Ling) up to the boat and it gave Jace hard fight ....   I gaff him into the fish box and his next swim will be in tarter sauce....

Red Snapper Fishing Sunday

Hey guys

The weather got a little better Sunday so Zale, Nick and I headed offshore.
It was a bit rougher than predicted - but we bit the bullet and pounded our way out about 50 miles to a old ship wreck.

On the way out we passed two huge schools of dolphins - bigger than any we had ever seen before...

As well a many large sargasum weed areas - which we call weedlines.

These weedlines are usually one of the best areas to fish as they tend to gather bait fish around them and give off quite a bit shade.

Throughout the day we stopped a many of the weed patches but they were for the most part without any signs of life...

This is most disturbing and I hope it not a indicated of the over health of the gulf...

We made it out to the wreck and made our first drops to the bottom - 152 feet.

Nick hooked up immediately and after a tough fight landed a large red snapper that went right on the ice.

Nick caught two more quickly and then it was Zale's turn.

Zale hooked up with a big snapper and it gave him a big fight - Here is the video.

Then my shot - nothing just two very small throw backs snapper and then we moved on...

We fished the weedlines and oil rigs all the way back home and never caught another fish.

These were some nice fish but - not the kind of varity of species I like to see on a whole day out in the Gulf.

Fingers crossed for good weather this weekend...

Hey Guys

We all are hoping for good weather this weekend so we can kick off the summer offshore fishing season.

It's been a very late start this year with over 11 weeks of high winds having kept everyone off the water - all spring....

Let's hope this year will be even better than last year - here's some pic from last couple of year - just to show off ......

                                       Zale's 135# Stripped Marlin

Keep checking back for all our summer reports...
